sunset, sunrise
when i entered in the army just a little over 4 years ago, i remember that someone once said to me, when the going gets tough, remember that there is a sunrise and sunset to each day.
what ever that happens to you has to end. just focus on getting to the end of the day.
i realised that thought became part and parcel of my in and out of the day in army and had brought me through my downs and rainy days. from the rainforests of brunei, hills of taiwan and deserts in australia. i remembered.. no matter what it has to end.
4 years down. much has changed. i'm much more civilised settings and have meals when i want to anytime i want.. same for bathing and washing up. no one tells me what to do and i'm 8 time zones from where i used to be. got over one relationship. found the love of my life.
last summer, while i was back to singapore, i chanced upon a few friends... and they were talking about their relationships. and one of them quipped.. 'ah my relationship is in the sunset phase right now' and the other agreed readily about hers.
my mind whirlled back to the days when hanging on till sunset was the objective of it all. and here, were people fighting, or perhaps not, to lengthen the day.
i realised that its not about getting to or hanging on till sunset perhaps; not about making it last... because everytime we try to look to the end, we take our eyes away from the present and now.. away from the capacity to really make a difference.
and sometimes, its in the present where we change the destination of the journey.... that by sunset we would have reached a place more different than what we might have expected to if we had kept our eyes on the end all the way through.
