a dawn of a new age: macbook

it has taken me forever to move to OSX and truthfully.. i can't be more pleased. i love the way that mac has improved their interface and architecture to produce a REAL alternative to windows.
i was skeptical at first. something that comes out of the blue (think 1997 onwards) can't be all that great. it might be a hype at most but it'll soon die down or windows might dig in their heels and destroy apple just like they did with netscape and possibly more recently Playstation... but now i'm typing on my blogger widget with my BBC radio widget playing in the background. the graphics are superb and the computing speed is likened to using a smart phone. tactile, responsive and fast. there is hardly lag time and though i paid the extra premium of US$150 just to get the black version of the macbook.. i'm very glad with what i've got so far.. (oh i upgraded the RAM to 1GB as well) one of my complaints though is the integrated graphics card.. but the fact that i don't play very many games and all makes it rather bearable.
on aug 7-11 steve jobs will be giving more insight to the new OS 10.5 leopard and it'll be interesting to see what new features would be in it.. i suppose that most of it will be mainly developer-centric with improvements on speed on the usage of the itel processors, the new mac book pros should be coming out on the 64-bit Intel Xeon chips, running at speeds of up to 3.0GHz.
i do believe that apple has agood thing going for it.. i also think that while it can it should concentrate on OS development and continue to stay ahead. and i believe that as time goes, they might be able to soundly challenge microsoft's dominance as a mainstream alternative. but as far as it goes, i believe my own vote of confidence goes to say alot.. being the typical windows users who has grown up with MS-DOS to Win3.1 and 3.11 living with W95,98,ME and XP!
the next 3 years will be interesting.
