NUH, Week 2, Day 2

it has been almost a week and a half and i'm having a great time at NUH.. it wasn't how i thought it would be.. i'm receiving more teaching than i was hoping for and seeing many cases that i would consider rather fortunate for me to see..

yesterday i had clinics with prof einar and saw a few interesting cases such as SLE and Wilson's disease. its pretty interesting to hear the patients and about how they get through day to day life with their difficulties. its especially heartwarming to note that not many actually fall into this pit of depression... most of the time, they make do with what life has dealt them and do their best for themselves, for their families and their friends.

most of the time, the ones that find it hard to deal with the patient's illness are usually the family members... in a case of multi-focal motor tics, it was the mother that had concerns over her son's motor tics and needed constant assurance that it was in the best interest to help her son to deal with the consequences of his disorder, rather than treating him with medications which would cause the tics to subside but cause him to be sedated as a result.

today we went in and clerked a few patients in the morning after the specialist tutorials.. we did a case of UTI, diarrhoea, ascites and marfan's syndrome. joined in for the afternoon pharmacology lecture and then medical christian fellowship after that.

was a pretty good day and even managed to catch up with james cause we took the bus back together. i'm not sure what's happening tomorrow.. but i might need a day off to read up on all i've learned and seen today (and yesterday)!
